Ok guys, what are your suggestions? I was thinking of doing something to overlap the shoe with because it’s just sitting there in the middle, but the background is already pretty busy so idk. I’m also going to boost my shadows and highlights- any suggestions as to where specifically?
The Past Weekish
So I opened up wordpress a few days ago and it had exploded so now I’m finally uploading the drawings I’ve been working on since then. The first three are completions of drawings I started at Boston. I’ve realized that I really like all the colors so that’s a thing now.
Um the last actual picture is called Nightmare. It came about pretty strangely. I organized my room when I got back so I can see all the different papers I have and I saw one of the sumi ink things we did at the end of school. I started painting and it turned into a valley on fire with lightning and things. I didn’t want it to end dark so I decided to gesso over it and re-paint the scene normal. I liked that you can still see the original painting, it’s like a memory of a nightmare.
Anyway. I also painted my apron!
ok that was a lot of art. my bad.
The Museum Weekend
This weekend I visited the Museum of Fine Art (MFA) and the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston. Both places were AMAZING. I only had a few hours in the MFA and the place is like a maze. But I saw my favorite works of art- those of Monet, and discovered that I love John Singleton Copley, the American artist we learned about in APUSH that went back to England that I thought was unimportant. He is really good at clothing and lace. His compositions are funny too. He has one piece of Washington with the butt of a horse, a child stressing about his homework, and my favorite, a boat of people trying to save another person from being eaten by a shark.
I also went people taking where I take pictures of random people. That was very short-lived because I managed to take a picture right when the woman looked angrily into the camera. It is one of the most hilarious pictures I have ever taken.
I wish I could have a week to explore the MFA and read all the signs, but I did get to see a samurai exhibit that closed the next day and a good majority of the museum (i think). I could go on and on about the cool things in the MFA, but now onto contemporary art. Contemporary art is very…. interesting. The MFA has a small wing of contemporary art which had some awesome pieces like the gigantic wall of bottle-caps which I just started collecting when I came to Boston and a box of mirrors and clear blown glass jars that were reflected into infinity and the ICA had some great rooms, but there was only a few pieces that really caught my attention. They did have an AMAZING movie by this awesome lady whose name I cant remember, but it was political and feminist and just really hilarious. She had so many puns. It was great. Ok, fine, I do like contemporary art. But I love Monet and art like his the best. i kept finding pieces I loved a lot and then realized they were Monet’s after. It happened like five times. This also made me really want to learn oil paints even more.
I need to stop blabbing. here’s some pics

The Whatever This Is
I’m just going to let you figure out what this picture means. I know what I meant when I made it and it’s very specific (it’s a metaphor) but yeah. It means what you think it means. The colors are a bit messed up because of the camera. Maybe I just see it differently because I’ve been working on it so long. Colored pencil and marker.
The Special Sloth
So here’s a very colorful sloth that I drew when I just couldn’t draw anymore figures for my class. We’ve drawn people in the transportation building every morning for the past like two weeks. I’m sick of drawing people. So I drew a sloth 🙂 I stole my roommates style again, it’s just so fun and easy to do and I really like the outcome. I wanted to try to to watercolor a bit on top so i just used every color. The pen does bleed a bit, but it works. I’m not making sense anymore.
I drew it from a picture I found on Pinterest btdubbs.
The Sleeping Chimera
This is the picture I forgot about for a year. I was in my draw-every-kind-of-mythological-creature-phase that lasted only for this picture 🙂 Originally it was colored pencil and watercolor, but everything was very light and unimpressive so I decided to go over all of it in marker. Some spots like the ground and the cave walls weren’t all covered up in marker, but most of it is. I started reworking this before I left for Boston and meant to have it up the day before I left, but that didn’t happen. And it’s been mostly done for a week now because I didn’t have the darker grey marker, but now I have it and it is beautiful, even if it doesn’t have a felt tip.
What do you guy’s think of my chimera? Should the shadows on the walls be more extensive than they are now? and does anyone think I should maybe try to put marker into The Stuffed Fox picture from a while ago? or is that totally a horrible idea?
The Lined Hand
This is the second completed piece from Boston. This was done all in pen. My roommate draws and this is one of her styles. I took it and added some line variation before I put in the lines and changed up the styles of the lines (she just did straight lines of varying length- she didn’t change up like thick then thin or have some closer and others farther… idk hers look really cool.) I love how this turned out. I think I’ll try doing this in other media and not so like perfect. This is my metaphor and now I have to put it into my set 🙂 classes are rubbing off on me but that is a very perfect description.
What do you guys think?
If all goes well and I buy the darker grey maker I need I’ll have another picture to upload! Not too many spoilers, but I forgot about it for at least a year and since then I’ve gone over it all in prismacolor markers (original was colored pencil and watercolor) I’ve become rather attached to it.
The Cactus Metaphor
This is the day one of the Emerson art camp! We had to listen to Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dyan and then write and draw the metaphor for it that we thought of. Mine says “People are the cactus’s flowers-separated by the thorny mess that is drugs and violence, but as a whole… they are resilient.”
While I was listening to the song I kept thinking “cactus.. cactus” well not totally like that but that was the thought that stuck. Originally it started as people should stay away from cacti because they are prickly and the song is like someone telling a younger person not to do drugs and stay away from violence and whatever… its a 60s song so basically think about the 60s and everything there is in the song… or just listen to it. But then I researched cacti a bit and found they are like the hardest plant to kill and I remembered that they don’t have a lot of flowers…. and it sort of just progressed into this mostly because if I explained it any different it would take like 10 minutes to do…. so it came from necessity but I really like it.
The contrast is a bit poop, but then again cacti are hard to “see” contrast wise because of all the spikes… and I really liked what the class said (well before I did more to it after and mostly made the spikes darker and longer) that they liked that it looked like a soft, innocent, nice picture, but then you read the words and it’s dark.
Anyhoo I have actual homework for this class that I’ve been procrastinating doing it by blogging.
The Triadular Acorns
So this is the conclusion of the acorn in a jar thing I did a while back. I finally finished it! Complete with a triad color scheme. I decided to go with orange-purple-green because I wanted to make the acorns brown- so now orange and the tops are green because pants and stuff (guys these Emerson kids are already rubbing off on me. Like some have sweared a bit…. and it’s like I’m back at my Polish camp.. .because I am a sailor when I go there. It’s horrible. Anyhoo) and purple worked really well- it’s like blue but with red in it! What do you think? I’m liking the composition but its weird- it annoyed me at first that I kept sort of ignoring the back acorns- then I remembered that that was exactly the point. But I still can’t decide if it’s WAYYYYYYY to busy.
The Two Days Home
Hey everybody!
I got home Sunday night from my first camp in Crivtiz, WI and promptly forgot the whole next day that I owned a computer or a phone. I didn’t have either up there, so it’s really weird now using a computer. I’ve gotten really slow at typing 🙂
The camp was SO much fun. The theme was Robin Hood and the kids had (and are having fr the next week) a blast. They actually liked my day! My head still kind of hurts because the whole camp was in Polish, but we got play with PVC pipe bow! You have no idea how fun it is to shoot a bow (unless you have already) I’m really bad at it because I hold my arm wrong (and now I have a massive bruise) but it was worth it. My official job on the camp was to make decorations, so I made the pavilion and sleeping area look like a forest and the kitchen like a castle, and even though people forgot things and things got lost, it didn’t turn out that bad. I also had to paint scenes onto these two big triangle boards on either side of that flagpole which took days because it kept raining.
I’m really disappointed I didn’t draw anything, but when I force myself to think about it, I never had time. When I wasn’t decorating, I was with the kids, eating (we ate five times a day, no joke), at meetings that sometimes lasted past midnight, or sleeping because I simply couldn’t keep my eyes open. Ah well, such is life.
Anyhoo, I leave for Boston tomorrow morning, and I’m hoping I can get most of my english homework done in the car and on the first week because I’m told after that we don’t really have time because of the homework we’ll have. Hopefully that homework will include things I can use as my 12 sketches. There’s a lot of hoping happening right now.
Ok that’s enough of a rant. I have to go pack and hope (again) my roommates will answer me before I leave so I know what to bring! Happy blogging!
